In Gratitude to Our Donors
The church stands today because of people who gave of their own — not when it was easy, but when it was needed. It does not forget those who supported it in difficult times, nor those who worked with care and effort for its betterment and its good name.
We hold in particular gratitude the memory of Sarkis Kuyumdjian and his family. A merchant of Ruse, he donated a large part of his estate to the Armenian Church of the Holy Mother of God in Ruse. The church is sustained by those properties to this day, and the community gained its cultural centre “Yerevan”. His wife Satenik, of the Aslanian merchant family, and their five children remained bound to the Armenian community of Ruse — the youngest, Dikran, became the celebrated English writer Michael Arlen.
Gratitude is not remembrance, but continuation. Every gift given today stands alongside theirs.
